Swim Meet 101

Location: The Westchester swimming pool is located at 4201 Westchester Crossing NE, Roswell. Westchester has a 25-yard, 5-lane pool with starting blocks. Away meet locations and pool information will be emailed to you on the day of the meet.

Parking: Parking is limited!  If possible, try to carpool or walk to reduce the number of cars on the street for our home meets. Please only park on one side of the street, do not block driveways, intersections or fire hydrants.

Timing: All meets begin at 6:00 pm. Home team warm-ups begin at 5:00 pm and away team warm-ups begin at 5:30 pm. We ask swimmers to arrive by 4:45 pm for home meets and 5:00 pm for away meets. Each meet has 86 events and usually wraps up by 10 pm. The 5/6-year-old swimmers will be finished half way through the meet at Event 46.

Volunteers: Volunteering is required by all swim parents. ALL volunteers should check in with the swim coordinator by 5:30. The Cobb Summer Swim League referee will hold an on-deck meeting at approximately 5:45 pm. All timers, coordinators, coaches, place judges, announcers, and starters are expected to attend. The second half volunteers start at event 47.

Seating: Bring your own camping chairs! The pool furniture will be removed from the deck prior to the meet. Westchester spectators will set up along the fence parallel to Mabry Road. The away team will set up around the deep end.

Concessions: We run a full concession stand throughout the meet.  We serve hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza, chips, candy, and drinks. Concessions are cash or Venmo only. Please bring small bills!

What to Bring: Goggles, swim cap, sunscreen, team t-shirt, 2-3 towels, water, snacks/drinks, Sharpie, folding camping chairs, and cash (or phone for Venmo) for concessions. Make sure all items are well labeled with your child's name. Suits or swim caps with a high school or USA Swimming (year-round) team logo are not allowed.

NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED!  We can be fined and forced to forfeit the meet.

Heat Sheet:  A heat sheet is the document that lists the complete schedule of events, swimmer names, heat assignments, and lane assignments for our swim meet. Heat sheets are emailed to parents the day of the meet. Please print and bring with you or plan to use the Swimtopia App.

Swimmers: Swimmers are responsible for lining up four events ahead of their own. Please listen for the event numbers and check the event board carefully and often so your swimmer lines up timely and doesn't miss a race!

Please write your swimmer's first initial, last name, and age on his/her shoulder. This helps volunteers and coaches ensure swimmers are lined up where they should be. In order to keep track of your swimmer's races, write events, heats, and lanes on your child's arm or leg (so he/she can read it) with a Sharpie marker (see photo below for example).

(E = event, H = heat, L = lane, S = Stroke). For relays, add a column for position on team, ie. 1,2,3,4

Relays:
Medley Relay Order: Back, Breast, Butterfly, Free

10 & Under Medley relays:

  • Back & Butterfly swimmers line up at DEEP end
  • Breast & Free swimmers line up at SHALLOW end

10 & Under Freestyle relays:

  • 1 & 3 swimmers line up at DEEP end
  • 2 & 4 swimmers line up at SHALLOW end

Leaving the meet: Please do not leave the swim meet without checking with the coaches; you may be needed to fill in for a missing or injured swimmer. Help clean your area before leaving. We want to represent Westchester well at the pools we visit.
