Volunteer Descriptions

Announcer:  Keeps everyone informed during the meet. They announce the events and heats, give swimmers a 1st and 2nd call to report for their races, highlight sponsors, and make other announcements as needed. They work closely and communicate with the Starter. Home meets only.

Starter: Uses the bullhorn to start races. The referee will signal when the race is ready to start. The starter sits with the announcer within ten feet of the start end. Home meets only.

Computer/Score Enterer: Inputs places and times into the computer software during the meet. Training required.

Scorekeeper: Collects and tallies the score cards from the runners. Gives appropriate points to the Score Enterer.

Place Judge:  Announces or writes the order of finishers in each race by sight. There are two place judges at each end of the pool. Each place judge sits with an opponent's place judge. One calls the order of finishers and the other writes down the order of finishers once they agree on the order. These forms are then collected by the runner who will turn it into the scoring table.

Timer:  Uses a stopwatch to time races and records the times (one timer/lane). Timers push the start button on the stopwatch at the sound of the bullhorn and push the stop button when any part of the swimmer’s body touches the solid end of the pool. The Runner will collect the lane timer sheets.

Runner: Collects the lane timer sheets, place judge forms cards, and DQ slips and promptly delivers to the scorers' table.  Wear your tennis shoes for this job!

Concession Worker / Cashier: Sells food and drinks at the concession stand. Collects money (or Venmo) and makes change. Home meets only.

Set Up: Preps the pool and surrounding area for the swim meet. Stacks and moves all pool chairs out of the way near the fences. Sets up tables for concession stand, coaches, and scorers' table. Ropes off the side of the pool and puts up the backstroke flags in the deep end. Places "no parking" signs near the entrance and around the clubhouse area. Some heavy lifting may be required. Home meets only.

Clean up:  Helps coaches and coordinators make sure the pool deck, parking lot, bathroom and surrounding areas are returned to a state where they are ready to be used the following day. This includes moving furniture and removing necessary signage and cleaning up and removing trash. Home meets only.

Deck Worker: Ensures swimmers are lined up and ready for their events so they don't miss their race! If you are missing a swimmer, please tell a coach and they will go find him/her.
